(Peru, Neb.) – For the first time in Peru State women's golf history, a Bobcat participated in the NAIA National Golf Championship.
Jordan Schaardt, a senior from
Humboldt, was the first Bobcat golfer to do so by playing in the 2013 NAIA meet held at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln.
Despite shooting near her average, after three rounds, Schaardt did not make the cut to play in the final round. The cut score for an individual golfer was a 237 total. Schaardt played the tournament with a lingering shoulder problem, something which has bothered her this entire year.
In the first round, Schaardt shot an 82, ten over par, and was tied for 69
th. Schaardt had a little tougher second day, finishing with an 87. After the second day, Schaardt was tied for 97
th, 25 over par. During the third round, Schaardt shot an 85, giving her a three-day total of 254. Her total tied her for 99
th out of 144 golfers.
Schaardt did shoot better than her Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) opponents from Baker, one of whom Schaardt defeated in a three-hole playoff to win the HAAC individual title.
On the last day of the tournament, Schaardt was interviewed live on the NAIA video stream. Schaardt handled herself well during the interview and noted she was pleased to have represented Peru State and to have played with some great women from across the country.
Bobcat head golf coach
Brett Hahn was pleased with Schaardt's efforts. Hahn said, “Jordan has been a fine representative for Peru State's golf program the past three years. Not only has she done well on the golf course, she has excelled in the classroom. Jordan, along with her teammates, has set some high standards for future Bobcat golfers.”
