Bobcat Golfers Finish 5th at NWU Fall Invite

(Peru, Neb.) – Competing in their largest meet of the year to date, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat women's golf team finished fifth out of 12 teams at the Nebraska Wesleyan Fall Golf Invite.

The Bobcats finished with a two-day team total score of 730. Winning the invite was NCAA DII Northwest Missouri State University with a 653 score. Others ahead of PSC were William Penn (Iowa) University with 661, Park (Mo.) University with 678, and Iowa Western Community College with 692.

Finishing behind the 'Cats were Doane College – 733, Hastings College – 734, College of St. Mary – 740, Nebraska Wesleyan University – 743, Midland University – 744, Concordia (Neb.) University – 784, and Hastings B – 791. Sixty-nine golfers started the competition, which was held at the Pioneers and Highlands Golf Courses in Lincoln.

Bobcat senior Jordan Schaardt (Humboldt) again led the team as she finished in 12th with a two-day total of 170. Schaardt shot an 86 on the first day and came back with an 84 on the second day of competition.

Courtney Musgrave (Omaha) tied for 28th with a 180. Musgrave put together rounds of 87 and 93. Ellen Larsen (Lincoln) had rounds of 92 and 94 for a 186 and tied for 36th.

Katie Potter (Omaha) tied for 45th overall with a 194 total on rounds of 92 and 102. Jacey Stoner (Alda) continued to improve on her game as she finished with a 212. Stoner had a day one score of 109 and came back with a 103 on the second day, which was one of her better collegiate 36-hole efforts.

Brett Hahn, the Bobcats' golf coach continues to be pleased with the team's effort during the fall. Hahn said, “The first day saw our girls having to deal with less than ideal weather. Every Peru State golfer played her opening nine holes in the rain. I was very proud of the focus that our team had and it showed on the scoreboard afterwards. I believe our team score of 357 is our lowest one-day team score in recent years, if ever! Our 730 as a two-day total may be the lowest in recent years, if not ever.”

“Individually, Jordan continues to show the kind of improvement and leadership I expect out of being a senior. She showed her true competitive spirit by battling through her nagging hip injury and shooting her best two-day total of the fall and placing 12th overall,” stated Hahn. He added, “Jacey reached her career milestone the second day of the invite by posting a 103. I expect Jacey to be consistently shooting in the double digits in the very near future.”

Hahn concluded, “We are looking forward to our last invite of the year on Sept 30 as we travel to Hastings.”

Recent records would indicate that the team's two-day total of 730 is the best over the course of the last three years.
