(Peru, Neb.) – It was not to be for the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat golf team in the national qualifying meet held April 18 and 19 at the Rose Creek Golf Course in Edmond, Okla. The meet was a combination of schools from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC), and the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) as none of the three conferences had enough schools to have an automatic qualifying bid to the national tournament.
The Bobcats finished fifth out of eight teams with the tournament being won by Northwood University of Texas (RRAC) who had a two-day total of 637 or 61 over par. The remaining order of finish was as follows: 2nd -Texas @ Brownsville (RRAC) – 695; 3rd – Southwestern College (KCAC) – 699; 4th – Central Christian College (MCAC) – 777; 5th – PSC (MCAC) – 793; 6th – Kansas Wesleyan University (KCAC) – 799; 7th – Sterling College (KCAC) – 893; and 8th – Ottawa University (KCAC) – 896.

Courtney Musgrave shot her best two-day total to lead the Bobcats

The medalist of the meet was Courtney Huppert of Southwestern College who shot a two-day total of 150, just six over par. The top Bobcat was Courtney Musgrave (Omaha) who shot her career best as a PSC golfer. Musgrave shot an 89 on the 18th and followed with a 93 on the 19th for a two-day total of 182 tying her for 12th.
Jordan Schaardt (Humboldt) finished in a tie for 17th having put together rounds of 92 and 94 for a 196 total. Ellen Larsen (Lincoln) had rounds of 106 and 105 for a 211 total tying her for 29th. Jacey Stoner (Alda) was the fourth golfer and had her best rounds of the year at 107 and 107 for 214 for 31st.
Katie Potter (Omaha), a member of the team was not able to participate this spring due to an injury suffered at the end of the women's basketball season.
All of the Bobcat women who participated, including Potter, have eligibility remaining and will look to improve upon their performances from this past year when they return next fall.
Northwood University of Texas and the top individual golfers will be participating in the 17th annual women's golf national championships May 17-20 at the Link Hills Country Club in Greenville, Tenn.
