Bruss and Lister PSC October Athletes of the Month

(Peru, Neb.) – Preston Bruss (Bennet) and Maddy Lister (North Platte) have been selected as the Peru State College (PSC) October Athletes of the Month.  Athletic Director Steve Schneider recently made the announcement recognizing the two for their accomplishments.

Bruss, a 6-3 junior outside linebacker, earned the honor due to efforts in leading the PSC football defense.

Following Bruss' performance against Missouri Valley College, he was named as the Heart of America Athletic Conference's (HAAC) Defensive Player of the Week.  Bruss posted impressive numbers for the Bobcats in a losing effort over the then seventh-ranked Vikings.  He totaled 13 tackles, seven of which were solo.  In addition, Bruss added a pair of sacks that went for 21 yards in losses.  He also forced a fumble that he recovered.    The Bobcats held Missouri Valley to 13 points, well under their 40+ average.

Bruss is presently heading the HAAC with 10.2 tackles per game.  This also ranks him ninth nationally in the NAIA.  Bruss has one other national ranking as he is 48th in total sacks with 4.5 for the year.

Having been named to the Grand View University All-Tournament Team and led the team in several matches with kills during October, Lister, a 5-10 outside hitter, was selected for the honor.

During the Grand View tournament, Lister had over 40 kills and hit over .200.  In addition, she had three solo blocks, eight block assists, and five digs during the four-game tourney.  The 'Cats went 3-1 in the tournament with wins over NCAA DII University of Sioux Falls (S.D.), Jamestown College (N.D.), and AIB College of Business (Iowa).

Lister and the Bobcats finished their season last Saturday with a disappointing loss to Evangel University in which Lister led the team with 16 kills, which was one off her season-high 17 kills.  Lister led the team averaging 2.6 kills per set that puts her tenth among HAAC hitters.

Maddy Lister Pounds Another Kill

“Maddy and Preston are deserving of the recognition for their efforts in October.    Their work is representative of what we expect from all of our student-athletes,” noted AD Schneider.
