Morehead and Gottula November Bobcat Athletes of the Month

(Peru, Neb.) – Peru State College (PSC) Athletic Director (AD) Steve Schneider recently announced the selection of volleyball player Carly Morehead (Fairbury) and football player Cole Gottula (Franklin) as the November Bobcat Athletes of the Month.
 
A 6-0 middle blocker, Morehead was recently named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) All-Conference First Team.  In addition, Morehead was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
 
Morehead led the Bobcats in several categories at the end of the season and found herself in numerous Top 20 categories in the HAAC.  The four categories in which Morehead led the 'Cats were attack percentage of .245, total service aces with 38, total blocks with 117, and blocks per set with 1.1 per set.    In the HAAC, Morehead finished second in total kills with 240, third in blocks per set with 1.1, fourth in service aces per set with 0.4, tied for fifth in total service aces with 38, sixth in hitting percentage, sixth in total blocks with 117, 19th in kills per set with 2.3, and 19th with total kills of 105.

On Friday, Dec. 2, Morehead was among six Bobcat volleyball players to earn the prestigious 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition.  The elementary education major has maintained a minimum cumulative 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale since coming to Peru State.
 
After transferring from Fort Hays State University to Peru State College two years ago, Gottula was a member of a good receiving corp.  The 6-3, 205 pound wide receiver, Gottula led the Bobcats in receiving with 36 catches for 488 yards while averaging 54.2 yards per game.  Throughout most of the season, Gottula led the HAAC in receptions per game, but finished tied for fourth (4.0).  In addition, Gottula finished seventh in receiving yards per game (54.2), eighth in total receiving yards (488), and tied for ninth in total receptions (36).

It is anticipated that Gottula will be among several Bobcat football players who will receive Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition when the NAIA releases its football honorees later this month.  Gottula is a middle grades education major and anticipates teaching and coaching upon graduation.
 
AD Schneider stated, “Carly and Cole are the true epitome of outstanding student-athletes as identified by their all-conference and scholar-athlete recognition.  They are role models for our younger student-athletes to emulate as they progress throughout their career.”
